In 1956, the town of Shree Amirgarh, North Gujarat, witnessed the birth of a man who would go on to become one of its most respected physicians — Dr. Salimaddin Nasaruddin Shekh.
He began his educational journey in 1961 with primary schooling in Shree Amirgarh and completed his higher secondary education in 1973 from Vidhyamandir, Palanpur.
In 1979, Dr. Shekh earned his MBBS degree from B.J. Medical College & Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad. Driven by a passion for advanced medical knowledge, he completed his M.D. (Physician) in 1985 from the same institution.
From 1986 to 1988, he served as a Consultant Physician at Civil Hospital, Palanpur, where he gained immense experience in patient care and emergency management.
On 13th August 1988, he established Medi-Care Hospital, Palanpur — a turning point in the medical history of North Gujarat. He became:
Over the past 37 years (1988–2025), Dr. Shekh has treated countless cases, including cardiac arrest, cerebrovascular stroke, COPD, tuberculosis, poisoning, and snake bites. His hospital was among the earliest in the region to be fully equipped for handling all types of medical emergencies.
Humanitarian & Social Service
Alongside his medical achievements, Dr. Shekh is known for his compassion towards the poor and needy. Many patients received free or concessional treatment, reflecting his belief in masiya (charity). His philosophy has always been to prioritize humanity over financial considerations.
Lions Club Involvement: A proud member since 1998, Dr. Shekh served as President (2010–2011). For 11 consecutive years, he organized free cataract operations every November–December, ensuring quality lenses and expert surgical care.
For the past 12 years, he has personally led the distribution of free blankets on 31st December to the poor and homeless, offering comfort during harsh winters.
